The Top 10 Things To Keep On You At All Times When You Move
Moving is a big deal. Not only do you have to worry about the actual move itself, but you also have to make sure that you're prepared for anything that might come up during the process.
To help make things a little easier (and to help keep you from forgetting anything important), we've put together a list of the top 10 things you should always keep on hand when you're moving. Whether you are moving into your dream home or out of your parent's house, these items will definitely come in handy!
1. Wallet/Purse
It may seem painfully obvious, but here's the reality - in the busyness of moving, it's very easy to lose track of your belongings.
Your wallet or purse is one of the most important things you'll need to keep on you, as it likely contains your driver's license, credit cards, and cash. Make sure to always keep it close by, even if it means putting it in your pocket or holding onto it during the move.
2. Phone
Your phone is another essential item that you'll need to keep track of during a move. Not only will you use it to coordinate with your movers, but you'll also need it for directions, emergency calls, and staying in touch with loved ones.
Make sure your phone is fully charged before the move, and consider keeping a portable charger and lead with you as well, just in case.
3. Medications
If you take any prescription medications, it's essential to keep them on your person during a move. You may not be able to access your usual pharmacy or doctor right away, so it's crucial that you have enough of your medication to last until you're settled into your new home.
4. Keys
Obviously, you'll need your keys to get into your new place - but they can also come in handy if you need to access storage units, rental trucks, or other areas during the moving process. Keep them easily accessible so you don't have to search for them when you need them. Don’t forget to leave the keys and any garage openers accessible for the property you are leaving for the new owners.
5. Important Documents
This includes your lease agreement, driver's license, passport, birth certificate, social security card, and other important paperwork. Moving is hard work, and keeping your energy up during the process is critical. Pack some snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic, of course) to help you stay hydrated and energized throughout the day. This will also come in handy if you have young children with you - they'll need nourishment to keep them going as well.
8. Toolkit
A small toolkit can be a lifesaver during a move. It can be used to fix loose screws, hang pictures, tighten doorknobs, and a whole host of other things. You may not need it for the actual moving process, but it's always good to have on hand if something comes up.
9. Cleaning Supplies
Cleaning supplies are vital for two reasons - first, you can use them to clean your new place before you move in (which is always a good idea). Second, you can use them to clean up any messes during the move. Either way, it's always good to have some on hand just in case.
10. Cash
While most people rely on debit and credit cards these days, there are still situations where cash is the only form of payment accepted.
It's always a good idea to have some on hand, just in case you need it for tipping movers, buying snacks, or paying for unexpected expenses. Keep a small bit of cash hidden away somewhere safe, so you know you have it if you need it.
